Road Rules:
- Always keep to the right-hand side of the road, to the right of the traffic.
- Use the bike path or lane where there is one.
- The bike path is for riding only – if you are walking your bike, you must be on the sidewalk.
- It is forbidden to bike on the sidewalk or pedestrian streets – you should walk your bike in these areas.
- Biking side by side is allowed, but let other cyclists pass.
- It is against the law to hold on to other vehicles while riding your bike.
- Obey the traffic lights for both cars and bikes – there are no right-turns on red!
- Hand signals should be used to indicate stopping, turning and going straight.
- Keep to the right at intersections.
- If you are turning left at an intersection, you must ride on the right side of the path, signal your intention to stop, ride through the intersection and stop on the opposite side. Then you must wait for the light to change and then continue across to the left side.
- If you are on a bike lane and a bus is stopping at a bus stop, then you must stop at the back of the bus and let passengers cross the bike path to get to the sidewalk.
- You must always keep both feet on the pedals and at least one hand on the handlebars.
- You may not carry anything on a bike that is longer than 3 meters and/or wider than 1 meter. (If you have an extended carrier/cart attached to your bike, it can extend up to 3.5 meters.)
- Children under 6 are not allowed to ride alone – they must be accompanied by a person 15 years or older.
